Note :
(RNZAF Official) Original Refuelling Probe
In April 1973 a probe replacement program commenced as part of each aircraft’s routine service schedule. The new probes, similar to those on the A-4M‘s were identified by a dog-leg section at their mid-point and replaced the original probe following occasions where a malfunction in the locking mechanism had allowed fuel to leak into the starboard engine air intake.
During the proceeding eighteen months air to air refuelling exercises had not involved the physical transfer of fuel between the participating aircraft.
